Budd/Michelin Doodlebug

Anybody know of any accurate drawings for this beast? Trains had an article years ago. It was a corrugated side stainless steel doodlebug that ran on Michelan tires with a flnage mounted behind them. The PRR had too many flats and sold it to a aouthern short line.

Ndbprr,
This citation, from the Index of Magazines, of the Trains article might help refresh someone’s memory of another source:

Budd before the Zephyr Trains, April 1973, page 24 Budd-Michelin railcars
( “PENNYPACKER, BERT”, RAILCAR, STREAMLINER, T&P, TRN )

The Zephyr patents citation in a Google search includes patent drawings in a .pdf file that you could verify against any photos you have:

I’ve seen drawings for these somewhere in my buried resources collection…Have to rattle the nogin and get back to you.

Dave

The Reading Company Technical and Historical society had a issue of their magazine, “The Beel Line”, devoted to gas electrics and it had pictures and maybe a drawing of one that operated (briefly) on the Reading. I’ll see if I can find the issue and article.

ndbprr, In the The Passenger Car Library Volume 4 there are pictures of the various ones built by the Budd Co. But the only drawling is for one built for the Texas & Pacific. It’s different than the ones for the PRR. But there is a good picture of the power truck and a cross section drawling of the tire and rim, it says " Licensed under Michelin Patent. Tires built by Goodyear"

I guess I’ll just have to scale off the pictures and do the best I can. Thanks

Ndbprr,
Guess I wasn’t explicit enough, below is the link to the patent drawings in the Google search. Admittedly, they aren’t dimensioned but they include cross sections and other structural details:

Please take another look.
