New member here. I’ve been scratch building buildings for my Buddy L trains far about a year now. These trains were made between 1926 and 1931. They were reproduced in 1990 for a very short time. The loco and tender are about 44" long, about 9.5" tall, and just over 6" wide. I’ve been posting pics on a small scale military forum. I thought I’d find a railroad forum to post on. Buddy L trains are back in production. Beware of them on Ebay, they are advertised as limited edition and “1 of 1000” first edition or something of that nature. ALL of the new boxes say “1 of 1000” and they are not collectables, nor are they part of a limited edition or limited production run. The originals are highly collectable, but I’m not sure how to tell a reproduction apart from the originals except for the originals say “made in USA” and the current reproductions say “made in China”.
Apart from all that, Ridge Road in NY sells the Buddy L line as well as several other discount train online warehouses. I like the current reproduction rolling stock, the box cars and gondolas go very well with the B’mann big hauler series and can be purchased dirt cheap (I paid $50 for 4 pieces). They have good detail and metal wheels. The locomotives on the other hand, require extensive upgrading and modification to run worth a crap, but if you are willing to tinker they can be a good investment.
Try posting this over at the Garden Railway forum next door, you’re sure to get far more responses (some good, some anti-Buddy L).
Boy I whish I could find WWII stuff like that in HO 1/87th. If I could find B-17ings and P-38’s in HO scale it would make me rethink my current bench.
I am off subject but to me it is a shame that so many of the great machines where cut and made into beer cans. Rather it be a B-17G 4-8-8-4 Big Boy or a P-38 but I am odd. Back on subject, looks great.
If the larger Buddy L stuff is being reproduced again, I’m surely going to find some.

Cudaken, I’m also looking for 1/87 stuff for my layout too. I’ve seen a few P-38s in 1/87 on E-Bay a few times. I’ll let you know if I ever find any more. I’m looking for 1/87 Sherman tanks, halftracks, jeeps, etc… for now. I’m also looking for a 340 or 440 for my 1:1 'CUDA too. I figured with your name you might be able to help me out there too.
I so happen to have a nasty 440 that I don’t need. If you want details answer here and them PM me. Lets just say it is a Big Boy of the 440 world. Will take 6500 RPM’s and stand up to 700 HP. Only thing not APR are the oil pan bolts. Slugs are Speed Pro L-2266F’s with the deck works and .030 over bore comes in at 9.03 to 1.
I am pretty much sick of 1:1 cars. After 35 years of looking for a tenth of a second here and there I am pretty much done.
The 440 has all the good stuff I will add. I am hot for a few PC Big Boys and a Super Cheif DCC system. If I drop it in the 68 Road Runner I wil keep it. But like I need 11’s again.
