buildings

im trying to model my own building with photographs im taking and the same with road signs how do i transfer that down to ho scale how do i measure ho scale for the correct building height?

Hi mk55

To scale buildings, you need to identify an element like a door within the target structure that you can determine the size of. A man door will usually be 80" tall by 32" or 34" wide. You can then determine the height of the walls with simple math. Likewise for width. Some other aspects can be a little more tricky like brick for example. In Canada, nine bricks high equals two feet. However, when I applied that formula to an East Broad Top building I came out way short and had to fake a concrete foundation in order to raise the structure enough to be able to run cars into the building. Says a lot for testing using a mock up before chopping up your building supplies![banghead]

As for road signs I am not so sure. Maybe others can help.

It helps if you can take pictures right straight flat-on to the sides of the building. Having a few measured elements helps too.

No this is not HO but “dollhouse scale,” 1" = 1’.

Hello if you are taking your own photos take a board or pole and make 1 foot marks on it in 2 colors. And put it next to what your taking a pic of . You know how tall the pole is and you know that each mark on the pole is 1 foot. You may have to take a few pics move the pole from place to place it should give you a good idea how big things are.
