I was thinking how cool it would be to start an area here in the forum for the Burlington Northern Modeler, post photos and layouts of those of us that model th Burlington Northern, talk about the railroad and its history and hopeful it will take off and might spawn off other forums that spealize in one railroad.
This is just the start so we can see where this will go from here. Anything about the BN is welcome.
Others are welcome also of what made up the BN, such as the Great Northern, CB&Q, Northern Pacific and the SP&S.
Hope this becomes a great place for the BN Modeler.
I would not be surprised if Atlas frowned on railroad specific areas in its forums. That could get to be a killer on space right away. For example, if you got BN space, then I might want ATSF space, except I already have ATSF forums to access when I want to ask questions and talk to ATSF modelers. I have a hunch Atlas wants to keep their forums generic.
I’ll start and share a photo. Its not a great photo but it is of BN none the less. My brother was always a big fan of BN mostly because he really liked the color green. I have become a fan once I got to see a lot of the BNSF units still holding onto the cascade green.
BN works for me because I model MRL which once was BN and NP. I plan on (when the layout comes) to have retro days where I step back in time on the layout of BNSF/MRL and have MRL/BN, and BN early years, and NPdiesel, and finally NP steam.
I don’t know if this is a great idea, and I don’t know if Kalmbach thinks it is, too; but I do think it’s a pretty interesting experiment. If the concept flies, I could see a list of railroads down the side of this site.
Stating the obvious: there are a lot of Yahoo groups already established, BN for one. I think they are really great. I don’t see a conflict here. It looks like the two concepts might go well together.
Nothing stopping the discussion of BNSF here, but I’d estimate there is no chance Kalmbach will establish separate-railroad forums. Besides, they aren’t needed. They already exist elsewhere. Check out the Yahoo groups and TrainBoard.
I’ve always been a BN fan i saw the BN every time i went to my grandparents you could say the BN started my love with trains. Here is photo i took of my SD50M at the local club layout.
