I need informatoin on what various “details” that CB&Q F-3’s (phase3) had equipped on them when they were just delivered(1948). I’d like to buy the Details West detail kit this year for my genesis F’s. All I know is that they had pilot covers until the late '60’s.
There is a Burlington Route Historical Society website and forum. The guys who participate there include some heavy duty experts on questions like yours. Do a search for BRHS and go from there.

Thanks, but I very often go to BHRS’s website and have been doing so for a while now.
Then join the Yahoo! email list and ask them directly. Heck, you’ll probably meet up with one or more guys who’ve even ran them. I don’t know off hand how else you’re going to get the info.
CB&Q_Guy, I emailed the BRHS and they rercommend I order the Burlington Bullitin #4, which is all about the Q’s Fs. Thanks for all of the recommendations anyway.
The BRHS is a bunch of volunteers so you don’t always know what you’re going to get when you contact them. The Bulletin is probably only a couple bucks, by the way.
The reason I suggested that you contact the Yahoo! groups email list is because it is very similar to this Forum, except instead of getting your question answered on line, you get the answers in emails delivered to your IN box. I apologize if you already know this but I’m just trying to be helpful in case you don’t.
The email list is where you may hear from those who actually worked on or around the F3’s when they were in service years ago. Lot’s of modelers there, too.

Is the Yahoo! email list free? (you can see I don’t know much about the internet!)
Neither do I, but I’ve been playing around online for five years now so little by little you pick things up.
Anyway, first off, the answer is – Yes, it’s FREE.
Here’s the concept: You find a list with a topic of interest to you and join. Every email someone sends to that list, whether it’s a comment or question, immediately (more or less…) gets sent to every one else who is signed up as a member of that list. When or if anyone replies, again it goes to everyone. That’s the basic concept.
Some on this forum will tell you that there are a lot of popup ads or you can get a virus with all the emails coming in. And that’s true to an extent, though I have NEVER had any of this myself, in five years of being on an increasing number of lists, to the point now where I am on about 100 of them! Of course I have Norton Internet Security which also has Norton Anti-Virus included – and which I keep up to date(!) – installed on my computer.
At this point you may be tempted to say, “Aw to heck with it, I don’t want to deal with all that or take the risk.” Well there are two options around this: Subscribe to Digest Mode, or just go to the list’s home page and read all the emails there. Digest mode is what I use…instead of you getting EVERY email when it’s sent to the list, they are stored at Yahoo! and when a certain amount are received, or it’s been a day or so, then all are sent to you at once in one email. Then I just use the “page down” key and scroll through each one glancing at the subject lines – kinda like you look at the subject lines on the Forum. When I find one of interest, I read it. Simple.
