Business Car D&RGW Wilson McCarthy

Look at this picture:

Who is Wilson McCarthy? Can someone please tell me the story behind this car…

Wilson McCarthy(1913-1956) was a lawyer, banker, and former president of the D&RGW.

Jim

Thanks, always great to learn new things. I can understand why the car is named after him [:D]

As for the car itself, it was built in 1951 from D&RGW coach #1240. This was one of eight streamlined coaches that the D&RGW bought from the C&O when the C&O decided that it didn’t need all of the coaches it ordered in 1947.

The cars (which would have been C&O #1669-1676) were delivered directly from Pullman-Standard to the D&RGW as their #1240-1247.

To kitbash one of these in HO, the undec version of the Walthers C&O streamlined coach would be the best starting point.

Thanks for telling me the history behind the car. I also think Kato have one with item number 35-6009. Look at this:

But I can’t find any picture of the Kato car.

Edit: I just found the picture I was looking for. I don’t know how accurate this car is, maybe someone that own it can tell me.

The Kato ‘business’ car is a model of a Budd car built for the CB&Q. This is a ‘one off’ car specific for the ‘Q’…

electrolove,
Jim’s right. The Kato car is nice, but it’s just a stand-in painted to look like the Wilson McCarthy. I believe an accurate one was imported in brass, but the kitbash suggestions above may be the way to go here for most of us.

Brass $$ vs. kitbash economy and fun – deja vu, all over again!

electrolove,
Did you notice on that page that Division Point is also doing the 1231 that you asked about in that other threat at?: http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=60478

The 1230 is NOT listed.
