Busted Rumor, a F69PHAC has not been scrapped...PHOTOS!

Ok, It has baeen rumored for a long time that the two Prototype EMD F69PHAC’s were sent to scrap in 1999. Well, this is not true, for at least one of them

The 451 is currently in Mt. Vernon Illinois. I know this for I spotted it sitting with a FURX GP50 2923 and a flat car loaded with drive axels.

I was brave enough to even venture forth into this rare locomotive, and climbed into the cab of the unit.

IT WAS TRASHED, The consoul was all torn up with wires hanging out, there was dust everywere, and the engineer’s side windows were all shattered or non-existant.

Back in the enigne compartment, The prime mover was gone, only scraps of metal and some decaying electrical components layed in the oil pan were the prime mover sat, however the generator was still there.

Every single marking on the out side was painte out, even that maroon stripe along the side of the units was gone! You could barely make out the “Amtrak” “Siemens” and “Electro-Motive” through the paint.

As for proof of the units existance, I shot some video, and a friend who I went with, Mike, shot stills on his Digital Camera, I should have the pictures from him in about a week or so, I will post them in the Loconotes picture forum, and rrpicturearchives.net

Heres The photos!

Sounds scrapped to me!

Whats the HP rating of the F69PHAC?
Mitchell

They should send them to Iraq Railways and be done with them

Nice archeology work!

What a great looking locomotive, seems they were away ahead of their time in designing locos, as compared to the horizontal gym lockers of today, what are the plans for this existing loco??
