Sounds like poor Charlie isn’t going to be stuck 'neath the streets of Boston, but on the other side of the Annisaquam River bridge.

The old Pennsy replced a bridge in the Philadelphia area in hours not months! Maybe Metro North can show the MTA how to run a railroad.

Engineering advances and techniques today allow wondrous designs and time savings. Goose yer B&B boys, call HBR or a competitor, MBTA! It’s 2012!

They can replace the bridge in hours instead of months if they do the prep work right. The CN has replaced atleast 5 Bridges on the E.J.&E with scheduled workblocks lasting less than 12 hours using structures built on site and lifted into the new position. Nobody can afford to have their railroad shutdown that long to replace a bridge. They better ask around to get the job done quickly and right.

Recently, Amtrak replaced a lift bridge on the busy Northeast corridor in just one weekend. With good planning it can be done.

Slow to 10 MPH - not closed. Only closed for a short time. Ride over it every day. The draw at Manchester is the same speed.
So right now there are three in dire need - Saugus River, Manchester & Gloucester,
