But what would ya' call 'em???

Greetings,

I have been pondering the ominous possibility of this nation one day adopting a two carrier system. Hopefully “merger mania” has been satiated for a few years but what about the future? How long do you think it would take the bean counters and big wigs to figure out that “efficiency” is the new name of the game in this global economy? They probably already have I’m sure. There have been many threads covering the pros/cons/likes/dislikes of this subject so I’m not going to talk about that. Believe me, I was peeved when CNW, SP, and CR were absorbed so any other mergers would not make me happy in the least bit. But if it did happen, what the heck would you name them? Of course we can’t have a monopoly. If we went to two east-west carriers, what would YOU name them?

Mine:

1.) Eastern American & Pacific

2.) Chicago Interstate Railway[:D]

  1. Union & Southern 5. National Railway

  2. Burlington National 6. Sante Fe Southern

  3. Pacific & Eastern

  4. North American RR

Just to name a few.

Ameri-rail

US Rail

Union Pacific

  1. United Railways

  2. American Railways

Edited to add - I agree, the Union Pacific is way too proud of its heritage (and it has a right to be proud) to willingly allow itself to be called anything else.

So maybe:

  1. Union Pacific

  2. The Other Railway

Ha,ha,ha!..you guy’s are funny, but oh so true. They wouldn’t go down without a fight.

I also like:

1.) The Burlington & Norfolk

2.) The Hapag, Hanjin & Lloyd!

Microsoft

  1. East Coast & Western

  2. Norfolk & Wherever

I like Norfolk & Western.

Atlantic & Pacific

Atlantic & Western

San Francisco & Eastern

Maine & Southwestern

Texas & Northern

Florida & Northwestern

Gulf, Mobile & Northern

Gulf & Canada

for the longwinded: New York, New Orleans, Chicago & Los Angeles (nicknamed Big Four?)

and for the UP fans, Omaha & Everywhere Else

UNION PACIFIC

NORTH AMERICAN RAILROAD

Borg 1 and Borg 2 (with apologies to Dr. Seuss)

Union Pacific, and Not the Union Pacific. When all is said and done, that’s going to be your only 2 options-right?

I don’t want to admit that it’s true, but it is. Let’s just allow the UP to monopolize the whole thing and get it over with. I can start their ad campaign:

“The Union Pacific…serving your town with at least three parallel lines!”

1.Union Pacific

  1. Norfolk Southern & Seaboard

My suggestions:

Pacific Great Eastern

Atlantic, Mississippi & Union Pacific

greetings,

Marc Immeker

Watching the total melt down of the last few mergers I think it should be called the ABM RR

A BIG MESS RR

call it FUBAR

[wow]

How about the Atlantic & Union Pacific. Out west, it would be A-UP, instead of The-UP. And Down East, they could call it Ayy-Up. [:D]

The HH&L. That is really funny

The United States Railroad

The Great American Railroad

Pan-American Railways would take over everything that the Union Pacific does not want.
