has anyone outthere ever done business with nhs hobbies.com.? i am in the market for tortoise switch machines and they seem to have the best price. but i have never bought from this place before and i am a little leary of buying from a co. that i don’t know since i’ve had problems with a certain co. on the west coast. looking forward to your replies.
Yes. I buy all my track from them. Great prices and fast service. I’ve won a couple E-Bay items from them too. Their listed as Hobbies 001 on E-Bay. I highly recommend them.[tup][tup]
thanks for the info. they beat the other online stores for a set of 12 tortoises by at least $11
i had a look at that site and they have some good prices. the thing is they don’t have alot of train stuff in stock. i have had some luck with the site www.Internettrains.com. they have lots of selection and a great site. finding what you want is easy. there is a problem though…other people that have ordered from internettrains have had their ordered on backorder for a VERY long time. i think this is due to the confusion of their new site that went online about a year ago. there are a few threads dedicated to internettrains problems. no doubt if one of those guys comes and read this, he will post his opinion.
BTW, internettrains does have tortise switch machines.
i will give them a call to see if the tortoises are in stock. internettrains is the place i was talking about but lets stay away from this. i think everything has been said. thanks for you input
John,
I don’t know if he is cheaper or not but Tim Smith @ Empire Northern Models sells Tortoises for $12.49 each - whatever the quantity. Although he doesn’t have a wide variety of things, Tim does have access to them. He’s got some of the best prices around on locomotives and DCC products and is equally knowledgeable about both. Since Tim is in Webster, NY, shipping should be cheaper for you, too.
Hope that helps…
Tom
I don’t know how much your buying, but I’ve found NHS sometimes waves S&H if you spend around $100. Between that and their low prices, their hard to beat. It’s actually a hardware store that sells trains. (Naggengaust Hardware or something like that.)
My folks used to live in Franklin. I liked riding the “T” when I’d visit.
thanks, i am going to give them a call. we have 2 commuter stations in franklin now and their is also a freight working the area around 2am (i haven’t seen that one yet)
My experience with internettrains.com was not so good. I did not hear from them in about 30 days after I ordered 6 items from them in January, 2007. I tried calling them with no luck-they always answered with a recording saying they were busy.
After a month of trying, I was beginning to wonder if there was anyone there. I emailed and threatened to cancel my order. I did get an email back, a somewhat defensive one as I took it. After another complaint, I got an apology email from them saying there were backorder problems and they were sending part of my order at their expense.
They did send two items. I have never received the balance of the order, or herd a peep from them since.
Perhaps my experience was unusual, or perhaps they were having temporary problems. Communication skills seemed to be lacking, in my opinion.
