Buying some DVDs

Hi

Can someone, who has seen a lot of train DVDs, tell me this…

Which pentrex videos feature most newer EMD engines (710 series), SD60 and up
cabrides would be great!!

Well it doesnt have to be pentrex, any other production company as long as the sound is as good as pentrex (studio mixed in high quality)

thanks

Goin to Kansas City (BNSF) is a lot of cabride, most of the equipment is the new stuff.

Union Pacific Triple Track Main is good for stuff new up to 2000. There are still unpatched CNW, SP, and D&RGW units which make a few appearances.

Highball Productions has some good ones too.

Galloping through Gallop (BNSF)

Sand Hills Sub (BNSF)

Curtis Hill (BNSF)

Most of the more recent Hotspots DVDs, though you tend to get the same train in different locations on a few. I have 17 and 19 (NS and CSX). They have the locomotives and type of train identified in a paper insert (a nice touch). No narration, just trains.

Blue Ridge Productions has really nice DVDs of the Old Main Line (5 parts, the later ones are much better than the first ones) and Sandpatch (part 1 came out last year and is the first half of the line from Cumberland, 2 planned). All CSX, but you get some BNSF, CP, CN, MARC, Amtrak, UP, and lease stuff, even a few shots of the WM 734. These are nice because they show you on a map where they are shooting from and give you some locations railfans can access for better viewing. Sound is really good on these. You also get the designation for each train.

Hi, thanks for your help

I know that a lot of DVD’s feature new motive power, but not a lot of them are EMD 710 engines, and that’s what I’m looking for exactly

Plus Highball DVD’s seem to have inferior sound to Pentrex DVD’s, so that’s why I asked about pentrex

So, I’ll just summ it up:

Looking for DVD’s with a lot of newer (sd60+) EMD engines, good sound (pentrex or as good as pentrex), preferably with cabrides (if not, then anything else)

thanks

Wildrails, I think your out of luck if you set your standards like that. The newest Pentrex cabrides were on BNSF and used GE locomotives. What makes the sound on the Pentrex videos good is using a professional studio for sound editing, the drawback to that is the expense. Combined with the cost to press the DVD rather than burn them means that Pentrex and possibly Green Frog are the only possiblities. Note how few new videos either company produces these days.

These are not my “standards”, just something I’m looking for at the moment, if there is such a thing, ok, if not, I’ll move on and get the next thing on the list

I’ve found something wich ridiculously close fits my description

Cab ride over donners pass

A smaller production, but is supose to have good stereo sound, in-camera, but sounds good from the demo clip (though the demo was mono and compressed)

and the best part is:

It’s 4 hours long!!

a 4 hour cabride in a UP SD60, and it’s all mine, ALL mine!! (evil laughter)
