BW / CW Transformer Max Power Supply Rating

I have managed to misplace the instructions for my BW transformer and do not recall if it can be used only with the 80 W power supply it comes with or if it is able to handle the additional power of a 135 W or 180 W Powerhouse power supply. What is the official word?

Has anyone “unofficially” tried combining a BW / CW transformer with a 135 W or 180 W Powerhouse?

A ZW just seems a bit much for my one train at a time 4 x 8 switching / operating accessory layout. Of course I can add a second BW or CW to my existing setup. Just wondering.

Thanks – Steve

Does anybody have an answer to this? I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’m using my dad 1044 90 watt to power my setup and want to expand but current transformer really aren’t as useful or cool as ZW or KW’s. ZW is cool but expensive and overkill, KW is really nice but I’m scared to buy a used one b/c you really never know what your going to get. So that leaves me with using CW or BW’s with different power packs. I wish Lionel would make a KW again! Oh and btw I’m not a fan of the TMCC stuff - I run mostly AC Pullmore magnatraction stuff without railsounds.

Dr.Fu-Manchu ,The Train Guy putting in my two cents: I bought a used KW transformer
and a LW on E-Bay about 2 years back and have had no problems. Had to buy knobs
for the KW and a handle for the LW, Otherwise smooth sailing. Don’t fear the used
oldies, Find a good Lionel repair shop and have them overhauled if needed or tuned
up. In my humble opinion, the old transformers are fine. Besides, the old ones have
less stuff than go wrong! Happy Hunting!!!
