C.B.&Q. steam

In the past 40 years I have seen (off and on) several old engines been displayed but the last few years I haven’t. Can someone put me onto where I can see or get some for my layout? I am trying to model the early ones( meaning)before 1950 or evon before 1930. thank you if you reply to my questions.

What scale?

I am going to assume you are talking about HO scale CB&Q steam engine models? Right now, about the only thing available is a USRA Heavy 2-8-2(O-4) from Broadway Ltd Models. There has been brass ‘Q’ steamers over the years(O-1a/S-3a/O-5b/etc, but I am not aware of anything that has been imported for quite some time.

Walthers has brought out USRA 0-6-0 & 0-8-0 steam switchers(the ‘Q’ had 10 G-5 0-6-0’s and 10 F-1 0-8-0 switchers). Some dealers may still have some of these on the shelf.

And ebay had three or four of the switchers last night when I was looking for Soo Line stuff.

As far as accurate plastic steam, all have been covered except the Proto 2000 USRA heavy 2-10-2. There have been other plastic steamers lettered for the Q in years past, but none were correct.

As far as brass goes, there is a pretty good selection available. Off the top of my head…

LMB & Oriental 2-8-2 O1A’s

LMB S2 4-6-2

LMB/NKP/Challenger M4 & M4A 2-10-4’s

Custom finishing/Oriental/Overland/ Challenger/Tobi 4-8-4 O5/O5A/O5B’s

OMI/Challenger M2 2-10-2’s

Sunset/Challenger/NKP products 4-6-4 S4/S4A’s including a streamlined version by PSC and NKP

Overland B1A 4-8-2

Overland F2 0-8-0

Oriental G8 0-6-0

NKP Products K2 4-6-2

NKP Products R1 2-6-2

That list includes models built from the 60’s to this year, so expect a huge gap in price, detail, and running ability. I excluded all the USRA CB&Q steam done over the years.
