Just wondering if anybody knows is the former C&NW building down in Chicago across from the former C&NW station still standing, and if so who uses it today? I’m guessing UP sold it off after the merger since their headquarters are in Omaha.
C&NW never owned their general office buildings in the depot area. Except for the offices in the station the Northwestern leased office space from various landlords.
The building formerly known as One North Western Center is still standing; I’ll leave it to a regular commuter to tell you what it’s currently used for–possibly condos. The longtime offices in the former Daily News building (400 West Madison/3 Riverside Plaza) are undoubtedly someone else’s offices now.
Not a regular commuter but I like to get in to downtown every other month. The building is still there. They have since painted the exterior a red or maroon color to mach the neigboring River Center building just to the south. The raised area on the roof where the CNW letters and the track motif have had windows cut into it and it is also red with no indication of the old logo. I think its a mixed use building.
Mostly condos at the top with a nice view of the tracks below. CC
