Hey folks,
When did C&NW start using Cab-coached on the commuter trains like the one below? What did they use for power was it an e-unit, f-unit or what?
Thanks

The first bilevel cars purchased by C&NW, 48 of them, arrived in 1955 and were used mainly on the Chicago-Milwaukee-Green Bay route. These trains were hauled by 4 E8’s and 2 F7’s. Push-pull service began in 1959 when 36 HEP equipped cars arrived(not sure how many cabs). C&NW later bought an additional 116 cars, 50 of which were cab cars, to supplement the 36 that came in 1959. the original 48 were also later converted to HEP. 42 more F7’s were modified for commuter service along with 22 E8’s as long distance passenger service shrunk.
Awesome thanks. Did the run only one engine on each train?
Yes, almost all the time there was only one engine.
Don’t know if this information is of value but they ran with the engine pulling out of Chicago and the cab car was leading inbound with the engine pushing the whole train.
