Those of you who, like me, frequent Eola Yard in Aurora, IL will want to take a short detour down to “Old Eola” Road down near the Eola Post Office. Right next to the old post office is a factory of some sort (just to the south of the P.O.) and they now have an old C&NW passenger car (looks like a baggage/RPO car of some sort) up on a remote section of track they have located next to the factory on exhibit. This car is really old and has no lettering or RR specific paint but is identifiable as ex-C&NW by the C&NW cast into the trucks at both ends. If you go down to the Culdesac near the P.O. you can hardly miss this car (be careful of the kids who sled down the hill right across the street when you are driving there).
Hello-
Do you by chance have a photo of the car? Is it heavyweight, or lightweight?
Thanks.
Phil
Sorry Phil, I don’t have a shot, but it appears to be a heavyweight with a black “tar” top and what I recall as being six wheel trucks all around.
carl might check it out with you.and I apologize for missing you and others on saturday.
stay safe
Joe
No need to apologize, I undestand how such things can go. Hope to have you with us on another outing.
Do you or anyone have pictures of the yard area itself? I remember when I was a child that I would ride my bike out to the yards and cross the rickety, wooden plank bridge over the yards to watch the trains. It was all countryside in those days.
