C&O Allegheny...

"I am hoping BLI or someone will gear up and release this Allegheny with QSi or similar in the future now that Riverossi has “Bought the big track in the sky”

For folks that may have missed it, Rivarossi is now owned by Hornby, and is rereleasing the Allegheny…

I have had one for a couple of years now and It’s a great runner and puller(even without the
traction tires… both of them came off within the first year). I installed a old Soundtraxx decoder
until I can get my hands on a Tsunami. I did have the front walkboard over the pilot come off
and the LED headlight has quit working. These are minor concerns and the loco makes up for
these small problems with performance. After I replace the LED, I will reassemble the pilot.

When Horby releases the Ally, I will probably buy one. Dave

BTW, I got mine for Christmas two years ago and I think Nancy paid right at $300 for it.

I own two Rivarossi H8’s and like them quite well. I put a
Tsunami Heavy in one but am guessing about which whistle might
be closest to correct.

I bought mine for an arm and a leg from the LHS (in Canada) it hasn’t shed the traction tires, lost any parts and still will pull any big train (30+ cars) I dare to put behind it. I also have an old Imperial brass Virginian (Allegheny 2-6-6-6) that runs fine with it’s open frame motor and archaic drive train (one of my ebay specials that actually ran right from the beginning). I wouldn’t trade sell or swap either of them for anything, if you can get the Rivarossi BUY IT!!!

I agree with that statement 100%. The Allegheny is one of my favorite locos. Berk-fan, It’s
good to hear that your traction tires have stayed put. I read that someone else on here
also had problems with their traction tires(I believe it was Fergie). Regardless, it is still
a fine model with great detail and like I said earlier, it pulls like a champ even without the
traction tires. Good luck, Dave

I run mine without the tires on level track. No problems.

I am very pleased with my Rivarossi Allegheny and have had no problems with it. It runs smoothly and quietly, and as others have said, it is a great hauler. I may replace the headlight with a golden LED. LED’s produce no heat, so there are great for headlights.
I also have an Akane Alegheny in brass and completely super-detailed it from Coupler to coupler. Beautiful locomotives. I wish QSI made sound units to retrofit both locos.
