C&O/REA Flexivans

Hello, Black Sheeps back

I was wondering if any one knew anything about the C&O/REA flexi-vans. I have seen images of the REA flexi-vans from NYC Odyssey Vol 2 by Green Frog Prioductions (A must have for NYC fans!) and Pentrex’s B&O Odyssey, (also good!) I see the buggies and the trailers but I have been unable to get a good side shot of them or even a picture and I am wondering if anyone has any info in regards to these flexi-vans.

If any one has any info in regards to this, I would be very grateful, thanks.

Good afternoon: You might want to go to the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society website and look through their online picture collection. There is a lot of different material there.

Hope this helps.

BTW- You are absolutely right re the NYC Odyssey series. I see something I “missed before” every time I look at them

I think you are refering to C&O Roadrailers which were not Flexivans, but a short trailer with a railroad axle at rear very similiar to todays Road Railers. REA had proprietory containers on pig flats also not Flexi’s. None of any Flexi rosters I have show REA or C&O Flexi’s.

Flexivans were side slide loaded 36’ and 40’ vans that loaded 90 deg to car then pivoted parallel to skeleton platform car.
