C&TSRR Birthday trip

For those who had been reading the forum in October are aware of my riding the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad for my 70th birthday along with my amused observations of blue signs on dirt “road” grade crossings. With the new found ability to post pictures, here’s one shot from that ride with real coal smoke.

I just stumbled onto this thread, probably because of an edit, and I cannot believe that no one has replied. That photo is fantastic, in every which way.

Thanks for the note on the picture.

It was quite the trip, though not quite what I imagined it to be. One of the highlights was the Toltec Gorge, going by a spot that I first saw modeled in 1967.

My edit was to insert the “B” that was missing from Birthday.

Excellent photograph Erik. Thanks for posting.

Interesting comment. What did you imagine it to be?

I was expecting more of a coniferous forest versus the largely deciduous forest on the section between Chama and Cumbres pass. The bus ride from Antonito to Chama was more pleasant than expected. The food at Osier was better than expected. The line from the pass to Antonito was in pretty dry country.

Ahh, thanks for that.
