C32-8

I thought that only 10 of this model were built, all for Conrail. Are these the same locomotives or are they derated C39-8’s or were more built. Notice the cab.

The C-32-8 was a test model of the Dash 8 series and there were only 10 built with the Dash-7 cab the rest if any more were built would have had the standard rear end and cab of the rest of the Dash 8 series.

Only 10 C32-8’s were built, originally as CR 6610-6619. They were not de-rated from C39-8’s but were built with FDL-12’s instead.
Since lots of GE’s are being sold to Brazil for continued service, it is quite probable that this particular C32-8 is ex-Conrail.

The C32-8 was a 12-cylinder machine, saw them often at Palmer, Mass. The C39-8 was a 16-cylinder machine.

Hmmmmm

The only external difference to a C32-8 and an early C39-8 were the number of engine access doors, two fewer on the twelve cylinder. Tough to count them on the Brazilian unit.

I’d be pretty sure the unit in question is ex-Conrail, it has marker lights.

YES!!! That engine are CONRAIL engines for sure.
