C40-9W horn valve LOOK AT!!!!

hi,

Does anyone know what type of horn valve that is on the ns c40-9w & what company makes it?

thank you

Eric

More than likely a Nathan “K” series. These are heavily favored by CSX and Norfolk Southern. The K5LA and K5H are commonly used on the roads. The K5H is especially popular in Canada.

Those are horns. He is refering to the horn valve, the device that lets air into the horn.

In response to your question, probably just a regular valve just like those on any other road. Why do you need to know about the valve?

either its a push putton in which activabes an electric solinid to activate the horn…or its a maunal air valve…

The control for the horn is on a touch screen panel on later D9-40CWs.(9812 on up, and the ES40 DCs) The older ones had the manual valve. The newer control takes all the fun out of blowing the horn! It will prompt you to specify which signal one wishes to convey, even to sound a limited warning where a “quiet zone” is in place.

hi guys,

I found what the horn valve looks like in case you guys didn’t know what I was talking about. It’s on http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?=9662

Thanks for all your replies!
