I’m a model railroader and a NEWBIE rail fan. I was building a model of a C44-9W the other day and as i putting on the front handrails and i got thinking about that front door. what is behind that door in that little cavity, icebox,tv,bathroom?
behind the door is a small room that has some of the air sander valves, the tool box…flag stick holder… fusee and torpedo box…that conpartment is only about 3 feet deep…if that…and thier is another door… that door goes into the cab… through that door… to your left is a cavity where the air brake computer hardware and some other electronics are housed… and the back of the engineers controll stand… to your right…is the toilet compartment…between the 2 areas…thier is a set of steps that go to the opporating cab floor… and the main cab area… where the controll desk, conductors desk…and seats for the cab are…

CSXENGINEER98…i really appreciate the answer and by the way it was a CSX locomotive i was building…#9021…have a great day.
9021 isn’t a C44-9W though (not to break your spirits). It is in fact a C44-8W, one of about 25 (I think) Dash 8s with 4,400 horsepower, good luck on your new hobby!!! You can always come to us railroaders and railfans for all your railroad (question) needs!!! [:D]
no problem… glade to help

CSX 9021 is a Dash 9-44CW it’s one of 50 delivered in 3-4/94 . They rode on Dash 8 trucks instead of the HiAd trucks. Article in Railroad Model Craftsman , Dec. 1994
4380 hp
It’s got to be something.
Only CSX call them C44-9 - GE call them C44-8 !!!
