I was reading another thread and it stated that cab cars have sand. Do they actually have sanders on the cab car or just controlls for the locos sanders? If the cab cars have sanders why?
I know the Metra 8700 series cars had sand on them at one time. The company I worked for at one time had purchased several cab cars from Metra. I asked about it and was told it was used for braking. I know when the conditions are right I use sand to help in braking when I am out switching.

So they actually do have sand on them. Interesting. Where is the sand stored?
The old CNW bi-level cab-cars did indeed have sanders and a sandbox (located just above frame level just under the engineer & fireman’s windows).
The activation lever in the cab-car operated the sanders on the ‘leading’ truck on the locomotive (the rear truck when in push-mode), and leading truck of the leading cab-car (sometimes there were more than one cab-car in a train).
