Caboose ground throws and tortoises?

I am looking into purchasing some of the Caboose Ground Throws but also want to use the Tortoise switch machine. I personally want the ground throws to be of show and throw the target I dont want them to be the actual throw (thinks that made sense) So I am curious i this possible? I will be using Atlas Code 83 Turnouts.

Thanks To Anyone Who replies.[8D]

You probably would want to use operating switch stands by NJ International. They’re more prototypical looking.

I use caboose where it is easy to reach and love the reliability, the look and the feel of being the brakeman. I use some Humpyard for remote switching and love them. I have some tortoise but am not a fan as some of the other guys.

BUY someone’s ‘dummy’ switch machines. They’ll be the correct size, and look better.
Some have handles and blade indicators.

It is very difficult, maybe impossible, to have both mechanisms working on a single switch. If you go with the Tortoise, you can’t use the Cabooses, because the mechanism can’t be pushed by the throwbar of the switch. I’m not sure if the NJ’s will turn freely enough to allow this either. They look very nice though, even if they aren’t able to be turned by the Tortoise.

On my layout, electrically thrown switches are limited to mainlines. When you get right down to it, that is highly prototypical for modern railroads. Everything off the main is done with ground throws.

Check out the new MR Special Issue “How to build Realistic Layouts” 2006 It is full of infromation that can help you with this problem as well as possibly others.

According to Cabooses add for their ground throw item #103 on Walthers web sight, the target and lantern can be be operational from the switch machine. Ken

I picked up one Rix Products target switch that is thrown by the throw bar on the Turnouts. I did this because its experimental to me nd didnt want to waste alot of money. Thanks for all the infomation and you know I remember seeing that in HTBRL I just couldnt remember what magazin.
