I have heard many good things about Caboose Hobbies but when I went to their web site and tried to do a search, nothing came up on either a simple or advanced search. It made no difference on what the search was - even something as simple as a major manufacturer. Are they still in business? Has anyone had the same problem ot am I search deficient???
6 weeks ago I ordered an Athearn Genesis MP-15 from them. After 1 week it was delivered to Germany - excellent service! They also did clear customs for me…
No problem with searching for a product in their web page - could it be a browser problem at your end?
Caboose Hobbies is one of my favorite internet stores for MR stuff. They are a class act, and of course are still in business. It sounds like you hit the wrong site, and/or are having a situation with your spyware or other safety software.
Harold, I’ve ordered from them twice (so far) without much problem (except on the order page, I’m not wild about their item numbers - incomplete or missing, just description).
But back to your problem - what browser are you using? I use Firefox (on Mac), and some sites won’t show up properly until I turn on cookies for the main site (at least) and/or other security settings. Depending on your browser you’re using, it may be some of the security settings (cookies, javascript allowed, etc.).
I just typed in caboosehobbies.com and it came right up. It must be a problem with your browser. I use Caboose Hobbies almost exclusively because of their HUGE selection of used Rio Grande brass steamers and I’ve never been disappointed with either their prices, selection or service.
FWIW I’ve ordered online from them many times with great success. I also travel to Denver quarterly and make sure that my schedule gives me at least a half a day to take a side trip there. [:-^]
I particularly enjoy going through airport security with a locomotive in hand.
While twhite was posting his response I searched www.caboosehobbies.com and their website came up with flying colors!
I will say this: if you ever get to Denver and do not visit Caboose Hobbies whether you buy anything or not I will guarantee that you will be struck blind before you get beyond the city limits!
Hold the bus, fellas! The OP isn’t having problems finding the Caboose Hobbies site. What he’s having problems with is performing a search using CH’s search engine on their site.
I tried it earlier this morning. Like others, it came up empty. The problem seems to be with CH’s server; NOT the OP’s browser.
I just tried the advance search option from work and it’s working fine for me now. (And I run the same browser and OS at home - i.e. the same a Pathfinder above.) My guess is that they fixed whatever issue it was at CH’s end.
There have been many times when I needed to run in there and pick up something small like some detail parts really quick, and seem to lose at least 2 hours in there. I always love browsing the brass area. I don’t think there is much of anything model railroad related you can’t find there. They even have a decent selection of OOP stuff.
A few times in the past when they are updating the server files, I have seen almost the same return, but that is normally only for a few minutes.
I watch their updates weekly and called Don this past Monday for one of the highly prized rare brass pieces that showed up over the weekend and purchased the model. It is on its way here. They seem to be in good shape and doing business as usual.
The one thing about their brass inventory is that it is close to being 100 % consignments only, except for the futures list. It could be the new brass market is not too profitable any longer.
