Caboose Industries ground throw to Shinohara turnouts

Dumb question, but I can’t determine which connector end to use on the ground throw. The way the connectors fasten to the ground throw the connecting pins point down. The turnout had a raised cover over its connector holes which means the pins have to point up.

Please be gentle, I’m old!

Simply cut the cover off the throwbar - you may have to drill-out the existing hole (been a while since I did mine) but the solution is readily apparent once that cover’s out of the way. [:)]

Thanks!

That had occurred to me but, being an eternal optimist, I assumed that there might be a more elegant solution. That being said, I thank you for your reply. When I ran an engineering department it quite often came down to “whatever works”.

Bob,

When I need to put the ground throw on the side of the turnout with the “cover” I just cut that part of the throw bar off. And yes, you will need to drill out the hole slightly. You may also have to cut off just a smidge (no more than a sixteenth, maybe a bit less) of the pin on the ground throw. I find the pin is long enough to scrape the material on which the ground throw is mounted. Good luck!

I also cut the cover off the throw bar, but as far as the pin goes, I carve a little groove under the throw bar so the pin has a little room to slide back & forth without rubbing against the top surface of the table.

I used to trim the pins a bit on my first layout’ but they would pop out once in a while. Now on the new layout I just leave them as they come and groove out the underside of the layout.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I received an email from Steve Olson of Caboose Industries that concurs with the collective. Cut the cover off and go from there.

Thanks to you all!
