On my N scale model I made the mistake of using Atlas custom switches in some areas instead of the spring-fitted Peco switches. Now I have to add $3 Caboose Industries 206S ground throws for the Atlas Custom #6 switches. Problem is: in a few areas the space seems too tight:
One option is to locate the throw a track or more away from the turnout so you eliminate the clearance issue, then control the turnout via a piece of piano wire (or “spring steel” wire) bent to fit. Some of the Caboose throws already have a hole you can use to insert the wire, or you can drill your own. Either way, remove the plastic pin from the underside of the Caboose throwbar as it isn’t needed and interferes with the wire. The wire can be run inside a section of brass tubing to keep it from bending under stress, and the tubing can be installed beneath adjacent tracks.
