I know that I am a newbie to model railroading, but I need to ask one of those “stupid” questions. Can one use N scale Caboose Industries ground throws on HO scale turnouts. I know that the small size would look more realistic. I have used HO Caboose Industries ground throws on HO Insulfrog Pecos but they look too large. Will N scale Caboose Industries ground throws fit the Peco HO Insulfrog Turnouts?
I know there was one article in MR a while back, they were building an HO scale project layout and used N scale ground throws. I don’'t remember what brand of turnouts they were using, but my guess is that in your case N scale throws will work right away or without a lot of modification.
If you do get it to work, maybe you could give the rest of us some tips on how to do it? Good Luck![tup]
Yes. See this topic here.
Cheers
The n-scale ground throws have a much shorter throw distance than the HO ground throws.
If you’re turnouts have a large distance between and open point and the adjacent stock rail this could be an issue. I’ve had problems along these lines with Atlas #6 code 83 turnouts. I got it to work but the switch and ground throw mounting needed to be very precise.
Any turnout with a longer throw distance than the atlas turnouts will likely be a problem. I’d advise buying 1 n-scale ground throw and trying it with one of your turnouts. If it works ok then do 'em all that way. While still oversize for HO the n-scale ground throws do look a lot better than their bigger brothers.

What you are looking at is the ‘head’ or throwing handle. If you go smaller, it may become more diffcult to grip. ‘Thumbs’ don’t come in N Scale.
???
In one way or another. Spend $3 and find out.
Guess my earlier post wasn’t clear enough.
Yes, they fit. Shave off the small underpins, and drill a hole in the end that can slip over the Insulfrog.
I find the best way to deal with 'em is to rub a finger along the top until the level raises off the ground a bit, then flip the lever. Trying to grab the lever while it’s all the way is pretty tricky (without long fingernails or tweezers).

Charlie
I took a couple of pictures this AM, so you can see how the N scale throw looks with HO equipment.

They’re still too large, but not nearly as bad as the HO size ones, and still work with Human Fingers.
Why would you need a ground throw anyway? Don’t the points of a Peco turnout snap into place without it?
Good question. For my own part, I had purchased the HO ones with the targets originaly, as I wanted the visual que. Than, after discussion on the forum on scale appearence, I thought I’d try the N to see if it looked better.
I’ll have to muse on this.
