Caboose Industries Hi Level ground throw question.

Yes, I need a couple more as I have some on backorder from Walthers so I may recieve them someday, who knows?

It takes me FOREVER Kalmbach!!! FOREVER to login into this forum. I spoke with someone twice and they say the’re not a problem. I keep getting “redirects.”

Paul, I will let you know if he has any. If he does, how many do you want?

By the way, looking for anymore engines? Unlike other LHS Ken (owner) does not reprices is older stock! He stills has some Proto 1000 E units for $69.99 for a pair (both A and B units are powered) and Proto 2000’s for around $70.00 range.

Far as pulling power of the E units? Outstanding! Just what you could use with the up coming grades in your future. Details, not great, but run great!

Guess we will be talking on the phone soon.

Ken

By the way, K- 10 layout only uses 202S and there around 2000 of them.

Hi Ken, thanks but I don’t need any more locos. I have five now! LOL!

Is this your layout? 2000!?! of the ground throws? That’s like $8000 isn’t it? Model RR = time sink AND money pit! [:S]

Yea, you are new! [swg] In 6 years or so you will be wondering how you got 60 engines, and still want more! [:-^]

No, thank goodness, it is my LHS layouts. It is way to big for my taste at 61 feet by 80 feet and with over 1 real miles of track!

Believe it or not I am so lucky I live live with in 2 miles of the shop!

Far as the prices of the 202S switch stands, I have one unopened right in front of me, cost was $2.95. So 2000 of them would be a mere $5900.00. If I where to have to guess, I would say Ken (owner of K-10 Model Trains) has $600,0000.00 plus in the layout.

It is a amazing layout and I don’t understand why Model Railroader will not do a article on it?

By the way, how many throws do you want?

Ken

Paul, I picked up 5 5202S grounds throws for you. Send me your shipping address (assuming you can get on line) and we will work out the details.

Ken

I contacted Cabosse Industries about the high level stands. Steve Olson from Caboose Industries responded to my inquiry.

He is aware that people are having problems assembling some of their products and he intends to update their web page with videos showing the assembly process.

Sure is a great feeling to know that companies like Caboose Industries is listening, and also takes the time to respond to inquiries.

“Way back when”, I was a junior member of the Stephenson Society of Model Railroad Trainmen in Freeport, Illinois. Aubrey Olson, who later founded Caboose Industries, taught me how to hand-lay HO track.

Back there in the late 1960’s, we used to use a cast white metal ground throw that was imported from Great Britain and usually in short supply. Aubrey Olson ran a little model train hobby shop out of his basement. I recall being there at his house one time when Aubrey told me of his concept of making ground throws out of the (then new) Delrin slippery plastic, but with an external cam rather than the internal cam that the British style used. He was then at the point of thinking out this problem. Aubrey & I still share e-mails and Christmas cards.

This is just to say that Caboose Industries was founded by model railroaders and if there is some problem or difficulty with one of their products, they will work to make it better.

Anything that Caboose Industries could do to make the assembly of these throws simpler would be a great step forward.

i agree with rich.the high level ground throws are very hard to construct and or equally hard to keep working right. tuxedo

I had two of these ground throws on my layout. I found I was constantly snagging my shirt sleeve on the targets, so I removed them and after having been used very little, the ground throws broke, so I replaced them with Caboose Hobbies regular ground throws, which are robust and last a life time. I do paint one side of these ground throws red, when in the switch is in the reversed position and the other side green for normal.

In real everyday use, sometimes one will snag on the handle I feel that some of the design features of the handle is all that needs to be changed. I know some would like more gear teeth. They could also make it swing down like another manufacturer has as an easy to install after market item.
