Cadiz RR in June Trains and an HO Cadiz RR locomotive

Some of you may be interested in these pictures. Trains has an article in its June issue about the Cadiz RR. I know the author of the story, Stan White, who was president and General Manager of the short line before he retired.

The first photo is one I took of # 8 which is now a forlorn hulk that’s an Alco S1. It’s in Cadiz, KY near the interchange between I-24 and US-68.

My friend, Gus, has a relica of #8 that he operates on his Illinois Central layout. He took the first of the HO model pictures. I took the last picture. Cadiz RR connected with IC RR before abandonment.

My friend Terry Kirkland found Cadiz #8 while it was still in service. This shortline presents an ideal simple operation to model.

I like the pictures of # 8, SSW9389… I also see that wonderful old yellow caboose. It may have began as an IC caboose based on the small door in the center of the sides. It has a larger baggage-type door on the side at one end for LCL business.
