CAF USA to expand New York plant
Pullman-Standard is now part of Bombardier with its name dissolved upon acquisition. Bombardier manufactured the Acele Express trainsets. American Car & Foundry and St. Louis Car Works would have thrived during this passenger rail renaissance.
Too bad there are no American companies that are interested in passenger rail car construction. Clearly, this is the wave of the future. I hope that CAF will make a good product.
CAF has extensive experience building a variety of rolling stock for the world market, but my first-hand experience with their products is with the new LRVs they built almost 10 years ago for Pittsburgh’s system, as well as the 55 Siemens-built cars from the 1980s that CAF updated at about the same time to match. All these LRVs are highly reliable and have comfortable and attractive interiors. I would expect the same of their current projects.
Mel Miller,
No American company will ever be interested in building passenger rail cars until the AMTRAK situation is stabilized instead of changing radically every 2 years.
