Cajon 8/2/2008 (pic heavy)

Since I moved to Nevada I don’t get to Cajon that often, but last weekend I got a chance to go see the recent changes.

I got up at sunrise and headded for the pass, I caught this one on the way from Hesperia by the airport.

Arriveing at Hill 582 I caught this UP

The old base for the 582 signal

Some additions to the hill, A Chard Walker memorial plaque, a piece of the Alray tunnel portal, and the plates from the old 582 signal.

And the first train I’ve seen on the new track

And another

Then a meet on the #1 & #2 tracks

Then a UP on the old SP with a all EMD consist

Then down at Cajon I caught this one with 2 CN units

And down at Swarthout road I caught another meet

And a shot at the crossing

Welcome back to California … if only for a day or two.

I had no idea WHAT Hill 582 really was. But, now I know. A picture IS worth a thousand words. Thanks.

Hi KP,

Picture smickture, I think you can swing a few minuets and stop by, mabee write something in the books [;)]. And thanks again for keeping me (us) up to date, your posts are appriciated [tup].[8D]

Nice tribute to Walker. Thanks to both of you for the photos and coverage of the Cajon project.

I agree, it’s a nice tribute. Thanks to those responsible [tup]. Too bad the other plaques are not on display (I assume the caretaker has removed them for safekeeping, I hope they haven’t been stollen)

This was taken last year (for comparison)
