An unusual helper set. Most are 2 units, this one is 3, and with a UP SD90/43MAC
Eastbound traffic was heavy and running on both tracks
traffic on #1 was held up a bit while they worked on the track
A UP heads west at Highland
An unusual load
Hotshots on #2 , low priority freights on #1
Helpers
Then another UP
Finaly we get a westbound
Dang poles
And a meet
Quickley followed by a UP
Then comes the V-SDGBAR. When it was 1/2 way past us we heard the air dump and it came to a stop quickley with the end next to us. We decided to drive to the head end and see if we could spot the problem and mabee give them a ride, but it turned out to be close to the front.

Man, did I miss a good day for trains. I went up yesterday for an hour with the family just to take a drive to see if my son Jared would fall asleep. The poor guy did before he could see a train. We only saw three trains but as one went through the area where the derailment was, they blew their horn which woke Jared up. So he did get to see a train, and then right back to sleep. I wish I had that kind of life again: Eat, trains, and sleep.
Uh oh. Busted. Yea I fell off the wagon a bit. I’m back to smokeing 2-3 a day. I have cut way back from the pack+ I used to smoke. I was wondering if anyone was going to spot that.
Well, It only took 4 hours to upload all those.[:0] I didn’t think it would take that long.
Zak, you should have been there.[;)]
Vic, there are a few of the FP45s still around. The OERM has one too and I know there are a couple more back east.
RJ, There is nothing really significant about 582. It’s just a spot some railfans adopted and fixed up and planted trees and built retaining walls & landscaped. The reason they call it hill 582 is the signal next to it is #582.
Ummmmm … Chad … that patched “SDP40” you have in your set at Colton is actually an SDP45-1 when it was bult. SP 3200-3209. They replaced the PA’s and the FP7’s in passenger service about 1968 or so. When Amtrack took over, the SP kept them, later transferring all but two to the Penninsula Commute Service. The remaining two were used as Executive units for Shipper Specials for a while, then rebuilt for freight service.
