Buddy Valastro, master baker and star of the popular reality show “Cake Boss,” helped Amtrak celebrate National Train Day on May 8, 2010, by creating a remarkable train-themed cake that was a scrumptious layout for some Bachmann trains. Don’t miss the episode providing a behind-the-scenes look at the baking of this cake premiering on TLC August 16th at 9:00 pm (8:00 CT). Amtrak fully wrapped an Acela Express® with images of the Cake Boss and some of his fantastic cakes to showcase its partnership with TLC.
While cool, I really think they should think before doing this… I mean they aren’t generating a profit and yet they have the money to wrap an entire Acela train?
I watched the show last night. The cake layout he made was very impressive. It was a massive city scape. Bachmann provided two trains for the layout: a large scale steam locomotive with passenger cars and an O gauge Amtrack passenger train. They both looked very sharp.

I was very impressed with the construction of the buildings, and the planning for set-up at PENN Station. I’m guessing that the bakers had little knowledge of model railroads, yet the attention to detail was spectacular none the less.
The finished product was as fine as many toy train layouts I have viewed.
That being said, a little too much “drama” in the kitchen for my taste. [8]
