Took my 3.5 year old son to the CSRRM last Friday. Rode Amtrak California Capitol from San Jose to Sacto. Got there and my son immediately started to play with Thomas the Tank Engine layout (not like he doesn’t have tons of them at home.) Tried to impress him with the last of the SP Cabforwards, but will have to wait until he is slightly older.

Yes, definately a top notch operation. I’ve been there more times than I could ever count, includeing railfair 99’. If I remember right that’s the first time I was in a GE (AT&SF #554).
i thought at railfair 99’ they had a BNSF Dash-9

I love the CSRM. I have been to all three railfairs(81,91,99) and also the mini railfair they held in 1982.

The Lake Superior Railroad Museum is had equal votes with it as to the best railroad museum in the country. I have heard it is very good.
When will there be another railfair?

Well, there is Winterail 2006 in Stockton, just a hoot and a holler down the track from Sacramento.
Well this is the official word from the website of the California State Railroad Museum as of Dec 29 2005 (thursday evening). The CSRM are the hosts of this event so they should have the best information. I am very fortunate to have attended all 3 mega railfairs to date (81,91 and 99) so I am very interested in this as well. I would love to see a Canadian Pacific doubleheader go to the next one with the CPR 2816 and CPR 2860 (Royal Hudson). By the way Does anyone remember HOW FAR IN ADVANCE Railfair 99 was planned???
I suspect that the lead-time for a 2007 railfair would be too short to successfully pull off.

When’s the Next Railfair?
History buffs, rail enthusiasts, and travelers far and wide have visited the three Railfair events held to date at the California State Railroad Museum. Not surprisingly, then, many ask “when is the next Railfair?”
There currently are no definite plans for a Railfair event. On average, the first three were held nine years apart, and each time the date of the event was selected to celebrate or commemorate another ongoing activity (1981=opening of main Railroad Museum building; 1991=tenth anniversary of this facility; 1999=California’s 150th birthday).
When is the next Railfair likely? When the Museum’s long-awaited Railroad Technology Museum opens! This could be as soon as 2007 or 2008, if things work out as planned.
