"Call to Action!" update

Many on this forum will recall the “Call to Action” post regarding graffiti
vandalism late last year.

The information was making its rounds on the Internet and just this week, I
saw the blurb in both the classifieds of “Railroad & Railfan” and “Railroad
Model Craftsman.”

Spread the word! Keep an eye out for those wanting to turn our trains into
rolling ghettos.

please not this again!!![:(!]

I’ll be sure none of my HO people vandalize my HO trains. Beyond that, it’s out of my hands.[V]

Guys,

Give Jim a break. His request is not unreasonable. I find it sad how this country has changed where many of us deem the defacing of private property “Not a Big Deal”.

I spent many hours during the late 70s and early 80s railfanning. Graffiti on equipment was rare and train watching was so enjoyable. Today, when I’m stopped at a crossing, I become very disgusted at seeing them.

IMHO, there’s blame to go around but the majority of it should be awarded to the parents that do very poorly in teaching kids from age 2 and up about respecting property.

No offense to our teen brothers on this forum, but most of these Graffitti vandals are under 21. In my younger years had I been caught vandlizing private property, my mother, a “super motivator” would have knocked me out and upon awakening would have “motivated” me to verbally apologize to the property owners…

Anyway, sorry about the rant.

The point of this thread seems simple enough…If we see people trashing trains, grab the cell phone and call authorities. Class 1 railroads like CSX, NS, and UP, have their own security forces that have authority to arrest vandals.

I’ve seen posts on the forum where posters suggest that "we should act as extra eyes for the railroads when we railfan. O.K, that seems to be the intent of this topic. No need to dismiss it so readily.

Peace.

I’m saying it’s REALLY out of my hands. I don’t live near anywhere that tagging is a problem. Hardly any rail traffic. If I could run fast enough to catch one of this little angels, I would!!

Yes I would have to agree with most of your statement but I am not always willing to point fingers at just the parents as one bad apple with spoil the bushel. Kids are picking up more and more from their peers and outside influences and this is where we all have to band together and keep an eye out for this crap. I’m not supporting “Big Brother” but when something starts to get out of hand it becomes ever so hard to get control of it again. It also hits us in the pocket books

I’ll do my part. You can count on it!.
