Calling all BRASS Steam Engine Experts, what's this worth?

I was wondering on Ebay and am always looking for something odd. I cam across this. I am also looking for a UP 9000 class 4-12-2. Maybe someone can give me a rough ballpark. I am now the high bidder.

Thanks

well considering new brass steamers run from $800+, the bidding so far is reasonable.

If you’re looking for something rare and cool, there’s a brass UP 2-8-8-0 Bullmoose for about $1000.00 (a bit to high for me!) on ebay right now.

Jonathon,

Do you have the link? I did a search and couldn’t find it.

A word of warning if you’re planning to run that 2-10-10-2: it requires generous curves. The Brown Book of Brass Locomotives notes that it requires drive modifications to be able to squeeze around a 30" radius curve.

I looked in the latest Browns Book and this one went for about $650 when the book was published in '94. There were 1110 imported in 76 (the only year listed) and the list price back then was $290. I couldn’t find any for sale on consignment or at any of the on-line brass shops that I use for reference.

I hope this helps.
Kevin

There is one in like new condition -and painted AT&SF- at Gunnings in San Anselmo for $775.

Figure it will cost you $200 - $300 to have one professionally painted, and you’re close to $600 now…

If you’re looking for a 4-12-2, then I already assume you’ve got about a 34-36" minimum radius on your layout. That 2-10-10-2 is going to need at least that without modification. The price tag sounds reasonable to me, especially for a Westside. Last time I checked a Westside articulated, it was a Rio Grande Challenger (3700 series) and it was going between $700-800. So if it’s in the condition the articles says it is, you might just have a bargain, there. Just remember that Santa Fe had a VERY fleeting affair with Mallets–most of them were broken up by the late 1920’s. If I remember correctly, the 2-10-10-2’s became 2-10-2’s (bargain: two for one). Handsome devil, though, isn’t it?

With the time left it will go for over a $1000.00 plus the reserve by the seller has not been met yet… This model is not listed in the Brown Book as it is an Overland Models version which were produced after 1994. Since the B&O 2-8-8-0’s were produced in around 2000, I would assume these with a similar wheel arrangement were done at the same time. The B&O 2-8-8-0’s went for around $1500-1700 new.

Just my .02 worth.

Actually I have nothing smaller then a 43" radius on the layout now (mainline). All turnouts are #10’s except a few #8’s that are in the smaller areas. Here is one that I missed.

It’s @$700.00 now, wait till the frenzy begins, who knows what this will go for, who can try to understand “brass”? ? ? it should be gold raather than brass.

That 2-10-10-2 is a great looking loco. Depending on what year a person is modeling
it may no longer be one loco but two. I don’t recall what the year was but “SF” hacked
it in half and made two loco’s. I’ve only seen the back half of the loco with the Buick
looking tender modeled. Would any body willing to ba***his into two loco’s?

Heres a idea before you get wrap up in biding on e bay…Check these locos out.
