A recent post in CTT advocated sticking to topic better and then asked a relevant question. The spirit of rebellion caught on quickly, though, and the last time I looked at it a few minues ago it carried a wonderful recipe for Grits Pie.
Which leads me to wonder . . .
Can one buy grits in Canada?
And if so, may Tories partake as well as the Grits? LOL [^]
I used to have friends who lived down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. One year I went down there for a visit with them and was fed grits for breakfast. It was not something that this “Yankee” from South Dakota would ever want to eat again. It was kind of like eating cream of wheat, but very gritty…almost like eating sand with butter on top of it. In the south there is something worse than grits to eat, it’s called “okra”. SUPER YUCK!!
Whether at Montreal’s famous “ADSCAM” or at former PM Jean Chretien’s 'lil ole country club in Shawinigan (“Shawinigate?”), Grits are eminently purchaseable. ;^)
Of course, they are prominently featured on the menu at Paul Martin’s Canada Steamship Lines and at Maurice Strong’s various Power Corp. properties!
Mind you, I tend to agree with the folks over at http://www.FreeDominion.ca that Grits are a dish best served cold, VERY cold indeed! ;^b
Americans use corn, grind it up and have various uses and recipes, it’s big in the Southern States, also hominy is in there somewhere but its too confusing as to it’s background, Brits use coarsley ground grain, oats husked but not ground, Canadians don’t know what “grits” are and they are NOT permitted in Canada and we don’t want them (we have poutine) GRITS (the political kind) are what we refer to one of our political parties, I don’t know which one, the other party is called something else and most Canadians don’t care about either one.
