CALLING ALL CANADIANS

A recent post in CTT advocated sticking to topic better and then asked a relevant question. The spirit of rebellion caught on quickly, though, and the last time I looked at it a few minues ago it carried a wonderful recipe for Grits Pie.

Which leads me to wonder . . .

Can one buy grits in Canada?

And if so, may Tories partake as well as the Grits? LOL [^]

What are grits?

I used to have friends who lived down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. One year I went down there for a visit with them and was fed grits for breakfast. It was not something that this “Yankee” from South Dakota would ever want to eat again. It was kind of like eating cream of wheat, but very gritty…almost like eating sand with butter on top of it. In the south there is something worse than grits to eat, it’s called “okra”. SUPER YUCK!!

That is a horrible pun… which it is likely that only Canadians will truly appreciate!

But, IMHO, that answer to ‘can one buy grits…’ is, unfortunately, yes!

Hey, I am from Chicago to!!!

Chris, I call my location “Rogers Park” because that is the Metra station for my community (UP-North Line).

Okay, I am on the Fow River Line, ex- Milwaukee Road

I belive judge Gomery has found Grits to be very purchasable.

(Bergie will delete this thread if he discovers what I’m saying!)

What ARE grits?

Grits should be fried.
Up here in Canada they will always leave a sour taste in your mouth.

The Grits are getting the cooking they deserve. [swg]

Whether at Montreal’s famous “ADSCAM” or at former PM Jean Chretien’s 'lil ole country club in Shawinigan (“Shawinigate?”), Grits are eminently purchaseable. ;^)

Of course, they are prominently featured on the menu at Paul Martin’s Canada Steamship Lines and at Maurice Strong’s various Power Corp. properties!

Mind you, I tend to agree with the folks over at http://www.FreeDominion.ca that Grits are a dish best served cold, VERY cold indeed! ;^b

Why would we want grits ?
We have KD.

WHY WON’T ANYONE TELL ME WHAT GRITS ARE?!! sob

In Canada (and the UK?) Grits are Liberals.

In the USA-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits

Americans use corn, grind it up and have various uses and recipes, it’s big in the Southern States, also hominy is in there somewhere but its too confusing as to it’s background, Brits use coarsley ground grain, oats husked but not ground, Canadians don’t know what “grits” are and they are NOT permitted in Canada and we don’t want them (we have poutine) GRITS (the political kind) are what we refer to one of our political parties, I don’t know which one, the other party is called something else and most Canadians don’t care about either one.

Ahhhh, poutine! Now there’s a gastronomic delight. A dish in which 98% of the calorific content is derived from fat.

Was someone offering KD? Thanks.

Ever had those maple candies that you can make yourself, and then pull out your teeth with?

Ahhhhhh the Fiberals…I mean Liberals…

According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, grits are wheat or corn ground more coursely than for flour or meal.

Hominy is meal from parched or dry corn with the hull and germ removed and often coursely ground. It is boiled for food.
