Calling all Chicagoians

Hey my Chicagonites. On Columbus day 2003 (this year) will Metra have their holiday schedule in effect? Im asking because I was going to go out to LaGrange to trainwatch for the day. Also will freight trains usually operates in the normal “time frame”? In a related question could someone throw some “train titles or names” of the BNSF trains that run on the Aurora Line, ex. C-CHIDEN.

trains will probably operate near the normal time.I presume you are still in school and get the day off.Find a good safe spot and enjoy.

Metra will be operating with their normal schedule, and freight operations will not be affected, as Columbus Day is not treated as a holiday by the trade crafts.

No matter where you go the Racetrack will be in operation. Every railfan has their favorite location from Brookfield west to Aurora. Downtown LaGrange is not a bad site since you can take breaks in one of the fast food places nearby. Along with all the commuter & freight action there will be 3 Amtrak trains but the Illinois Zephyr will be the only one that stops in LaGrange.

Be careful & be safe. Be careful with any parking restrictions so you don’t have to pay any tickets.

La Grange Road is nice and convienent with places to eat. But I found that Highlands is also very nice. There is a long approach and signals in both directions. Also there are no parking meters and less people to deal with. Just a suggestion.
