I would like to meet a few local fellow modelers within, say, 35 miles of Gainesville or Winder (Georgia), to meet and run trains, talk trains, build models, build layouts, etc.
I don’t care if you have a finished basement filling layout, or a short piece of flextrack for a test track. I don’t care if you’ve been in the hobby for 50 years, or just started.
I’m not talking about forming a formal club, just 2 or 3 modelers to get together to enjoy trains.
Anyone interested? Email if so, let’s no clutter up the forum too much.

Brad,
For what it’s worth, I was in Gainsville, Ga recently. We were on our way to North Carolina and I
always look for hobby shops in the towns along the way. I know that there are several in the Atlanta
area, but my mission when going through Atlanta is to get out of Atlanta. Anyway, I drove around
for a few minutes with no luck, so we got back on the road.
There’s a question in here, I promise. Is there some nice shops up your way? If so and you don’t mind,
could you let me know? You would save me from wandering aimlessly around towns that I know
nothing about. Thanks. Dave
No hobby shops in Gainesville, not any more, anyway, there’s one in Lawrenceville, one in Duluth (across from the RR Museum), and one in Watkinsville (just south of Athens). There’s also a cool display in Helen.

Definitely interested! Sounds like a good day trip from western SC. So what scale do you run?
Bob
HO scale, Southern Railway in 1957.
Oh… OK, some modern stuff, too.
Easley, SC, huh? Been there, nice place. Should be about an hour to hour and a half from my place. (Moving to Winder soon, next month or so). What’s your scale, RR, and era?
Brad
Brad,
N Scale. N&W, CofG and Southern transition era primarily, PA/B/A’s, Train Masters, H16-44’s, Y’s, A’s J’s, 2-10-2’s Pacifics and others. Once in a while I like to run ore behind a Yellowstone (if I can get enough of the right ore cars together to get it back from the DRGW to the Missabe). I also like to change up with modern intermodal stuff on occasion; Roadrailers, Maxistack and Twinstacks behind SD70’s and dash8-40bw’s or GP38’s . I used to do HO, but didn’t have enough room to run the length of trains that made me happy. Still wouldn’t mind making a day trip to GA, I still love the sights available in the larger scales.
