I thought you might be interested in seeing this. This is Athearn’s SP GS 77’ Chair car due out in Aug 08. I have on pre-ordered from Caboose Hobbies for 45.00. Detail beats Walthers and is equivalent to BLI and brass. I will be getting a Tomato Strip version.
Smitty, the model and real car have steam ejector AC and should be able to get spare parts from Athearn for other models.
Thanks for the post. They look really nice. BLI/PCM better get off their behinds if they want to have a chance at the Daylight “thing”.
I need to get ACs on quite a few cars. I have a nice blank spot on many an underbody. I haven’t ordered a steam ejector unit from Train Station Products yet, but that option is out there too. I would like to see which one is a better detailed unit.
Well, Daylight isn’t done in Raspido (yet) and Rapido does only have a few types of cars in a few numbers. By all rights you can get this/these to boost the train length.
Thank you for the heads up. What a beautiful sample! Even includes the full width diaphrams. Glad to finally see it. The metalized finish looks smooth and realistic.
I would like to get a close up look at those diaphragms. I have seen the American Limited fulls and wondered how well they actually work. Their standard diaphragms work very well, so I would assume the same for all of their products. I wonder how much one would be limited in the way of radius with the Athearn full width diaphragms.
Smitty, the diaphragms are the same ones that Coach Yard imports. Antonio, the car is finished in imitation silver. The prototype in the photo isn’t plated.
Wow!! The CY diaphragms are almost $20 a pair off the shelf!!
I think PCM may have a problem if Athearn gets to the “finish line” first. After using the CIL cars as examples in their (PCM) ads, their cars should be dang nice as well, though.
Isn’t Athearn marketing these under the Genesis line?
Athearn’s Noon Daylight will be in the Genesis line according to their website. From what I could make of the uderbody, the detailing is equivelant to brass models. Such as the ac unit I sent you.
