Are digital camera’s and/or camcorder allowed on an Amtrak train? I’m taking a trip next month from Milwaukee to Detroit and was wondering if photos/video would be able to be taken while going past trackside sights such as Porter, IN and Chicago. Can anyone help me out with this??
No problem!

Amtrak even has suggestions on how to photograph sites from its trains in its National Timetables.
I went cross-sountry on Amtrak in a Superliner with one of the small two-bed rooms (top and bottom bunk, whatever they call the rooms now), and I discovered that for video, if you fold down the table, you can use a small table tripod for a camera (i was shooting video) and it outs the camera at just the right height.
As far as I know like everone else said before me Amtrak doesn’t have any problems taking pictures or filming things on the train. I did it when I was on the Cressent last year, the train crew didn’t care at all most of them smiled.
I’ve certainly never had a problem with it.
Went by Amtrak’s Texas Eagle and Sunset Limited to the West coast in March 2005. Made digital and film photos and video all over the train, even in the diner. Also made photos of the locomotives and station scenes. No problems.
Thank you all for replying. I can’t wait for the trip. Knowing this will make it so much easier.
I didn’t have a problem last year…I also had a film cam…this year with the digital will be much better.
