Campbell Scale Models

Hello All,

I am finishing up a Campbell model and was curious what color to paint the shingles.

What have you all used to color the shingles?

I was thing of roof brown by Floquil or rubber by Testors.

Thanks,

Mark

If it has wood shingles, why don’t you stain it instead. Add a little green paint to signify moss.

Of coarse I would only use stain. Go easy don’t saturate especially if a water base- the shingles could warp or distort. Mask off walls etc if already painted.

Don’t use water based stain on Campbell shingles. The glue that sticks them down is water based. There is nothing worse than to spend hours shingling a roof only to have things loosen up when you stain the roof. I have used oils from the paint store thinned with turpentine to good effect. Burnt siena, black and raw sienna all work well in combination.

In older Fine Scale Miniatures kits that included Campbell shingles, the suggestion was to paint them first with Floquil Foundation - a beige colored paint. When dried, give them a wash of alcohol and india ink. This settles into the cracks between the shingles and between the rows of shingles, giving them some depth. I’ve done this with good results.

Any suggestions as to where I can obtain a set of plans missing from a kit I bought at a swap meet recently. Does Campbell have a web site?
Many thanks.
Bruce
