camping and Amtrak

Hello

I need some info. I will be traveling by train for the first time this suummer.

The trip is a camping trip to Libby Montana from Cumberland Md and back.Amtraks

site as info posted that knives are not allowed even in luggage .I was wondering do they

check for things that close i really need at least some sort of knife for meals and general

camping duties.

They don’t specifically indicate that camping knives are not allowed, they do specify “large sharp objects such as swords, axes, and ice picks.” See their Baggage Policy under prohibited items:

http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Copy/Title_Image_Copy_Page&c=am2Copy&cid=1080080553878&ssid=195

You may want to ask them about this specifically at their toll free number or by email.

Usually a knife with a blade under 3" is not considered a weapon. The odds are with you that they will not search you, even in this day and age. Just don’t start whittling on the train and you should be fine.

I don’t see Boy Scouts on their way to Philmont via Raton changing their ways…
