Can anybody help me identify this locomotive?

Good morning!

Can anyone out here help me identify this locomotive by type and manufacturer? Knowing that this picture took place in Franklin Grove, IL and that this picture is on what is now the Union Pacific formerly the Chicago and Northwestern, can anybody tell me what railroad this is? Or any other interesting history about the locomotive, the railroad or the area?

I am not much of a railroad historian… I just collect and run stuff from MTH Trains. But I am a historic preservationist and hope to create a library and museum of artifacts including photos from the Franklin Grove, IL area. No, I can not help you with the pic, but we will be visiting Chaplin Creek on Aug 4th. Will you be present that weekend?

Other than it being some kind of 2-8-0, that’s about all I can tell.

10 wheeler, definetley, those drivers are far too big for a Connie. I first thought 8 wheeler, but the lenth of the loco is too long. On closer examination I can make out 3 driver, so that and the dual pilot wheels under the cylinders scream ten-wheeler. Looks very similar to the 4-6-0 passenger type similar to what Casey Jones rode into history, they were all over the place in the end of the 19th cent. that tapered boiler should be a givaway to mfr but I can’t place it.
