I would like to purchase a discontinued #31179S Life-Like Proto 2000 E6A diesel equipped with QSI Quantum Sound & DCC in the “Louisville & Nashville” roadname- -provided it’s in L&N’s blue and cream livery. The seller, a well-known online model train “discount house,” doesn’t have loco exterior color data in its product database and I’ve been unable to contact the warehouse to find out.
Walthers doesn’t have a #31179S listed; they show only a Proto 2000 #31195 and a #31196 with L&N road numbers 754 and 755, respectively. Both have the desired blue and cream exterior.
Can anyone tell me what color scheme the enigmatic #31179S has?
Unless Walthers has reused old catalog numbers, I think you need to recheck your item numbers. According to the Walthers on-line catalog, the 31179 is an Atlantic Coast Line set (A powered and B dummy). See http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?quick=920-31179
If the discount retailer you are refering to is Trainworld, than you need to understand that in their advertising they use only the first item number in each product series to represent all the raodname choices.
I suggest you call them on their non 800 number, the customer service people on the non 800 number will be able to verify the actual part number of #31195 or #31196
I suspect this to be the case, BECAUSE, Walthers does not use letter suffixs, but Trainworld does to indicate sound equiped locos. They still use and old software system that groups products for faster sorting, searching, etc. Standard Hobby used to have a similar system.
I can confirm that #31179S is indeed a Proto 2000 E6A with QSI sound and dummy B in purple/silver Atlantic Coast Line livery since I just rec’d them from Trainworld. I confirmed road and color by calling Trainworld at 718-436-7072 and speaking with “Kim”. However, she advised me that they can’t always tell what livery is just by the model #.
