can anyone tell me?

can anyone tell me if a MRC controller can work with atlas track? thanx and if not what controller does i can not find a set with atlas track or an atlas controller![:(!]

If you are talking about an MRC power-pack, I don’t see why not. If you don’t have a connector to connect to the track, solder the wires to the track. I do it all the time.

what does solder mean? so it will work, cuz i do not want to go spend 26$ on a power pack i can not use. here is another question, does atlas track or any other track for that matter, that does not have road bed have to have road bed, and if it does how do you apply it, my hobby shop has that instant road bed stuff so how does it work do not explain cork road bed if you do not want to. thanks.

You have alot of basic questions. I suggest you purchase one good book on how to start a model railroad. It will help

To do much model railroad work, you will need to get a soldering iron and learn how to solder. It is not hard, but it is a little tricking. It is nice if there is someone who can show you, a club, boy scout troop, hobby shop, friend.

If the layout is semi permanant, not just set up on a table for a night, you will need road bed. It can be made from many materials, they are all hard. I used Woodland scenics foam roadbed this time, and glued it down with cheap latex caulk. There are several threads here about how to do that and we will help as you go along. Cork is very much like foam in application.

Snap track does not NEED roadbed, but it should have it. Flex track needs road bed.

Good luck

An MRC power pack will work with Atlas brand, or any other brand, track. Soldering is when you use a special iron, made for soldering, to heat a special kind of metal, solder, in order to bond two metal parts together.

Atlas track does not “have” to have roadbed, but it will help in most instances to quiet things down and gives your track a more perminant home when it’s secured to the roadbed. Roadbed comes in many forms. The instant roadbed you mentioned is foam based. The cork is another kind. They all serve the same purpose, they just go about it differently. What works for you is a personal preference.

Perhaps we should start with the basics. I would suggest you check out this site ( http://www.nmra.com/ ) and get a feel for what this is all about. You’ll also learn some of the terminology. You’ll still have questions, and thats OK, but by then you should be feeling like you know the lingo and it will be easier for you to catch on to what we’re talking about. On the left side of the web site I gave you, near the top, there’sa a page just for beginners. I’d start there.

Please understand, I’m not trying to blow you off or anything, not at all.

I’d rather teach you to fish, then give you a fish.

Check that site out, then throw those questions at us. We love questions!

I think we are being scammed by this guy. Look at his bio and previous posts.

I’ve been getting the same feeling!!![V]

If he’s trying to be a troll he sure isn’t doing a good job at it…

Back to the original thread topic, it is a good idea to get a good book or video meant for beginners. Seeing as to how my layout is pretty much 99% Atlas track with 9 MRC power packs, yes, MRC will work with Atlas along with pretty much everything else.

Roadbed is used only for main lines on our layout, although it is not necessary nor useless for any part of your layout.

most of the stuff on that website is complicated, even on the beginners guide!

There’s nothing there that a beginner can’t figure out. Home computers weren’t even around when I started modeling and I got along fine.

look i was not trying to scam you people sya this is a good place to ask questions i am new to the hobby and i am doing the best i can so since you guys think i am such a bother than good ridence i quit this forum and the hobby thanx to you!

Wow! I am not accustomed to having my advice treated that way. It may not always be good, but it is always respectful and intended to be helpful. Shame on you trainmaster for treating us this way.

sorry your right we still friends?

Sure. So do you have someone who can get you started with a soldering iron. I learned in boy scouts.

my dad.

Soldering just makes the connection better and isn’t required. MRC packs work fine with Atlas track.

Soldering is kinda like welding without a spark or flame.
