Can Crew Talk/Tower Com be upgraded?

I recently purchased a 1999 engine off e-bay. It is TMCC and has trainsounds, crewtalk and tower com. I was expecting something similar to the range of sounds and talk in my new BB1, but found this new engine to be pretty basic, garbled crew talk and only one tower command. Can it be upgraded and if so, how, how much and by whom?

Your new BB1 has Railsounds 5.0 which is only available in new Lionel engines. The 1999 engine has Railsounds 4.0, which is what Lionel sells as upgrades and to other manufacturers. Maybe Lionel will offer 5.0 upgrades someday, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
