Can I ask a stupid question?

I just noticed on one of the topics of Cheaters that the reply option is Locked why is that This is the first time I have ever noticed this. Larry

It is a topic with an adult theme, if relatively tame by adult standards. But, this place is frequented by younger folk who should not be exposed to the seamier side of adult life, no matter if it is related to trains as a career.

The moderator who noticed, judged, and locked the thread is a user-moderator whose signature appears in the last post to the thread.

Ok then that makes sense thank you for responding Larry

Using that logic, shouldn’t the Amtrak strike thread be locked as well?

Perhaps even more important, if the goal is to avoid exposing the kiddies to the seamier side of life, how does locking the thread yet leaving it intact, accomplish anything? If you are truly trying to keep the kiddies in the dark as to life’s realities, then shouldn’t the thread be deleted entirely?

It also was a year-and-a-half old topic that was resurrected for some odd reason.

I would say so, but I didn’t act on the thread. I’ll mention it to the person who did.

Thanks for the observation. I agree with you.

Maybe it should be locked because its OT.What’s in that cheating thread that kids don’tsee every evening on TV during prime time, or hear on the playgrounnd or in the neighborhood? What could happen of it? A 12 year old reading this here would make up his mind to cheat in 15 years?

Chico

Hmmm, If I was a kid watching that thread I’d be instantly curious about why it was locked and browse the whole thing.

Can a thread be locked if the last person to post says something really obnoxious ? Or is his/her post just deleted ?

Moderator is a good word and I picture that person as a sort of balance beam. The thread was amusing here and there but ultimately:

Cheating is COMMON if you know what I mean.

The people on this forum may be human but are certainly not common.

I know one way or another I’d get along with any of you.

Peace love and dinner for chri… oops… cryin’ out loud

That thread was railroad related all the way. Unless you are insinuating that railroaders have nothing to with trains. With, I am sure, some of you think already. (People DO run those big shiny locomotives you climb all over my truck to take a picture of you know…)

No, it was off topic. Railroaders also buy cars, they attend hockey games, they comb their hair after a shower, and they go the bathroom several times a day.

The idea, as far as I can tell, is to keep on topic, with perhaps some short-lived off topic questions dealt with. Long off-topic threads just begin to clutter up the pages eventually, and where would it stop? The only perennial exception seems to be the coffee/pub drop-in type threads that Bergie doesn’t seem to mind…although he has curtailed one or two of them in the past few months and encouraged new ones to take their place. It was and is his call.
