Hi Modelrailroaders.[:D] I need to know if it is safe to run one dc engine and one dcc engine on the same track. I bought a brand new Atlas UP Dadh8cw with sound and dcc and I have other engines that are dc powered. Do you think it is okay to run one dc engine and one dcc engine on the same loop track.[:)][:D][8D]
Depending on what system you have, your answer could be yes or no. For example, with a Digitraxx system of any kind… if you run a analog engine on the tracks. You have to have your DCC programmed to read the analog engine as “00” whereas if you run a DCC equipped engine on the layout, you can program it to be whatever youd like. And run multiple engines, just not combined with analog angines.
To add, your analog locomotive, (the non-DCC one) will not behave as you might expect from your DC experience with that locomotive. It will probably run slower, noisier, and get hotter if you allow it to sit for any length of time while the DCC power is running.
Most people find that there is not much fun in running older, non-DCC locos with address 00. The engines make so much zinging noise that it detracts from the experience.
Most new decoders detect DC current and adapt to it with no problems.
Am I missing something? I have a Digitrax system & can run DC and DCC on the same track, controling each engine on it’s own. Don states you can’t do it unless you turn the DCC engine to DC. Am I going to ruin my DCC engines running them the same time as DCC? [%-)]
